Spare Replacement Rules

Substitutions - Regular Season

For the first round the spare rules below are somewhat relaxed, though you should (as much as possible) endeavor to arrange for spares according to the position that is open. Please plan ahead to find spares with the same player position to help keep games even-handed.

Spares should replace in the playing position that is open based on the following:

If getting a Bye player...

  • lead may spare as a lead or second

  • second may spare as a second or third position

  • third may spare as a third or skip position

  • skip may spare as a third or skip position

If getting a player from our spare list...

  • spares are identified at two consecutive positions by the umpire committee

No penalty is imposed if the spare is of a higher caliber than the position required unless a complaint is received that a team is found to have abused this rule. If so, the umpire committee will assign a league warning and impose the “'4 point” penalty on the next offense.

Substitutions - Playoffs

Spare Player Substitution for Playoffs must be from regular members only that has been eliminated from the playoffs (i.e the two bottom teams only) except in the event where more spares are needed than what the eliminated teams can provide, then the umpire committee must approve of spares requested.

If getting a regular member player...

  • lead may spare as a lead or second

  • second may spare as a second or third position

  • third may spare as a third or skip position

  • skip may spare as a third or skip position

If getting a player from our spare list...

  • spares are identified at two consecutive positions by the umpire committee

  • in the playoffs, the umpire committee must be advised and approve of the spares requested

NOTE: If unsure whether a spare is allowed please contact the H.O.T Committee and they will determine the admissibility, as the violation penalty is a game loss by default.
